Abstract

This paper aims to characterize the so-called Standard Model of Cognitive Science of Religion (CSR) in terms of its historical-descriptive aspects, pointing, in the process, some of its epistemological implications. Additionally, in order to contextualize our goals, we will briefly discuss Cognitivism, a school linked to Cognitive Science, whose peculiarities directly influenced the initial development of CSR. Finally, we discuss the notion that, despite the fact that the Standard Model does not match the current state of the art of the cognitive study of religion, it remains a hallmark for authors guided by this research program and its cognitivist assumptions.
