Abstract

The present article aims to discuss the religious expressions of the African matrix in the Protestant Quilombo of Mel da Pedreira, located in the municipality of Macapá-AP. Quilombo this one of African origin that arose in 1954, but that from 1968 opted for Protestant religiosity. This work is an integral part of an ethnographic study of a qualitative nature that has adopted bibliographic research, documentary analysis, semi-structured interview and collaborative action (action research) within the scope of the Doctoral Thesis in Theology defended in 2017 by Faculdades EST, in São Leopoldo-RS. The results of the research indicate that although this community presents Protestant principles in their way of life, habits and customs, there is evidence of resistance of African religiosity in its religious manifestations. Moreover, although the speeches present in the interviewees 'and other residents' contributions contribute to their authenticity as a quilombo, this identity has been questioned in the heart of other quilombola communities in Amapá, which has seen in Mel community "a black identity of White soul".
